Oh this was a tough week.
I had swapped out last weekend’s hike from Saturday to Sunday. By Wednesday morning, my quads were tight and hurting. The idea of a strength session that morning was not appealing. Then when an early morning meeting got scheduled, it was a relief to move my rest day up from Thursday to Wednesday.
I guess the whole “Listen to your body” is good advice. I was able to go into Thursday’s strength session well rested and ready to work.
Saturday was hike day!
I took Emma and Junior with me this time to Sam’s Gap and we hiked the 5 miles out and back to Hog Back Ridge Shelter.
It is a beautiful warm day but there was still snow up on the trail.
Some parts of the trail was slippery but it wasn’t unmanageable with hiking poles.
We even took the little detour to High Rock to see the view!
The Hog Back Ridge Shelter is such a quiet and beautiful spot. I would want to come back and camp.
I carried my rugged sippy bottle and it worked out pretty well overall. I liked having it right on my shoulder strap so I could check how much water I had.
A few adjustments definitely needed –
- I have a straw stopper coming in the mail I hope will fit over the tubing as it does leak if I tip over.
- I have to decide if I want this on the shoulder strap or on the side of my pack so I can have the tubing sizing correct – it was hard to get it in and out.
Junior did not wear his Darn Toughs so we had to change his socks out with my spares I keep in my bag. Always keep spare socks!
We topped the day off with our favorite pizza and ice cream at Hot Springs.
